From The Helm: Marina Operations Manager
By way of introduction,
Steve Linton is the new Marina Manager at Pike's Bay Marina.
He started his first day at the Minneapolis Boat Show where he had
the opportunity to meet many of the PBM family.
Steve and his wife, Donna, come to Bayfield and PBM from Colorado where, for the last 8 years they were the Catalina, Hunter, Beneteau and Hobie dealer for the Rocky Mountain region. Prior to that, Steve worked as the Harbor Operations Manager for a dealer in Dana Point (Southern California). In addition, (as Steve puts it, in an “Earlier Life”) he comes from a Law Enforcement / Marine Rescue and Dive Rescue background which included traveling across the country and overseas, training Public Safety Agencies in water rescue and recovery techniques. He is the author of numerous public safety and water / dive rescue text books. He has also been a presenter at several Cruising World Magazine “Safety At Sea” seminars.
Steve and Donna are avid boaters and have spent time in the Sea of Cortez, the Florida Keys and the Caribbean, as well as the waters in California and numerous lakes in Colorado. They recently could be found on a bareboat charter in the Greek Isles and have promised to share their experiences. The Linton’s will make their home next door at Waterford on the Bay.

Steve brings a unique business, customer service and boating background to PBM and has many new and exciting ideas. But most important, he would like to hear from you about your thoughts for making the Pikes Bay Marina Lifestyle one of the BEST. He can be reached by e-mail: steve@pikesbaymarina.com.
"I
Sure Miss My Boat"
Open Clubhouse & Shop - March 21 & 28
Have you forgotten what your boat looks like? Or do you need to take a few measurements because you lost the ones you took last fall? We will be open on Saturdays, March 21 & 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help you re-familiarize yourself with your boat. Mark will also be on hand to discuss any of your service or spring commissioning needs. Let us know that you are coming and we will have the coffee and hot cider ready.
Get Your SHIP Together - April 18-19 & April 25-26
Once the ice is gone, we all are anxious to get our boats launched and ready to enjoy another great season on the water. The PBM staff strives to make the spring launch and commissioning process as smooth as possible.
As the marina continues to grow, it becomes more and more important that boats are commissioned and ready for launch when the weather says GO. To help with this process, we have scheduled two “Get Your SHIP Together” Work Weekends for April 18-19 and April 25-26.
This will be the perfect opportunity to load your “STUFF” aboard your boat, remove tarps or any other last minute tasks that you want to accomplish prior to launch. If you need our assistance, the entire Vessel Service Staff will be working on those weekends to help you out. Just fill out a work order when you arrive and we will assign the appropriate tech.
Can’t make it? - Just call or e-mail your Task List and we will take care of it for you. Don’t worry about lunch - Steve will have the grill fired up and will be serving Hot Dogs, Chips and drinks. Just let us know that you are coming.

Spring Launch 2009 - "I Can Hardly Wait!"
We have put together our Spring Launch 2009 schedule. We do appreciate the fact that when the ice is gone and the weather warms, we all want to be launched and in our slips as soon as possible. It is, however, impossible to pick an exact start date so our 2009 schedule is based upon a Day 1, Day 2 and so forth sequence. Once we are ready to GO, the sequence can start any day during that first two weeks of May. The schedule is based largely upon a Last Out - First In process.
In April we will be posting the launch sequence and then later, once it is determined, the start date. It is important that your boat is ready to go once this sequence starts, thus the reason for the “Get YourSHIP Together” work weekends. If you decide that you want your boat pulled from the scheduled sequence and we have to move it to a different location there will be an additional charge for that service. (It takes approximately 1.5 man hours to move a boat and reset it on the hard.)
We will try to be sensitive in meeting your needs, but also need everyone’s cooperation to launch 150 boats in a short period of time.
Is Your Boat In Charter??
Some Special Requirements
If you boat is in a charter fleet, you charter out your boat yourself, or your boat is used in a school or other commercial venture, please let us know. There are a number of special insurance requirements and PBM regulations that you need to be aware of. Just give us a call and we will review those with you.
