Where in the World is Tom?
Tom Agerter, our sailboat rigger and electronics expert, has been gone for the month of June to participate in the Bermuda 1-2. The objective of this particular race is to make a single-handed/short-handed passage, which encourages safety, good seamanship, communication and on-going gear and technique development and testing. It is an event designed to accommodate and challenge both single-handed cruisers and racers alike – from the “rock star” to the Corinthian “every man”.
The race is sailed in two parts: leg one by a lone skipper from Newport to Bermuda. Following a brief layover, leg two is sailed back to Newport with one crew member – hence the origin of the event’s name. Tom is sailing Weatherly, his Olson 30, and completed leg one in 3rd place for his class. His wife, Barb, is now aboard as crew for the return trip.
You can follow Tom and Barb at www.Bermuda1-2.org. The experience gained in such a challenge will make Tom even more valuable as a member of our service team.
July 4th – Party Time

This year’s holiday BBQ will be held on Saturday, July 4th at 5pm at the clubhouse. As in the past, the USCG Auxiliary will be cooking burgers and brats. Sail boaters are asked to bring either a side dish or salad and Power boaters are asked to bring a dessert to share.
The Flag Pole at #328
The new Wi-Fi system at PBM is operational and online. We have installed a 20’ tall flag pole with omni directional antenna & modem w/radio on the 300 dock at Slip #328. This location is in the middle of the marina and is where a Charter Box is conveniently located. You now should be able to log into either Pikes Bay Docks or Pikes Bay Clubhouse depending on your location. Once we finish our testing we will finalize the installation.
What’s
Down There?
Had you been at the marina last week, you would have seen divers scouring the bottom. We decided it was time for an underwater clean-up at PBM.
We want to give all boaters extra credit, as the bottom was much cleaner than one might expect. We ended up with approximately 5 dock carts of trash including dock box lids, spud pole covers, small tools and misc. boat parts.
Thank you Terry Bauer at Superior Adventures Dive Center for all your help.
