How’s Your Rig?

One of the most important parts of your sailboat, but the part you likely pay the least attention to, is your mast and its standing rigging. We spend hours cleaning and waxing our boats, finishing the bright work and changing the oil, but very little time maintaining and inspecting its mast and standing rigging.
If your boat should suffer a catastrophic failure, the cost could run into the tens of thousands of dollars, not to mention the potential safety risk to your crew. A missing cotter pin could cause a major rig failure. Rigging must be inspected on a regular basis and many components need replacing after 10 years of service. Let the PBM Service Department give your rig a “Status Check”.
We will inspect your mast and standing rigging – looking for signs of corrosion, metal fatigue, broken wires, missing or worn fasteners and running rigging. The inspection will include going up the mast. We will also check to see if your mast is properly tuned. While onboard, PBM will also check the integrity and safety of your lifelines.
The cost of a “Status Check” is just $95 and will include a report of any recommendations. Don’t wait for a Failure - schedule your “Status Check” today.
Summer Cleaning – Whose Stuff is This Anyway?
We are in the process of a major summer cleaning project in the storage building. We want the building to be cleaned and ship / shape before haul out. Over the years numerous items have been left behind and in many cases we can not determine ownership. If you have ever left items in the storage building now is the time to claim them before they are lost or destroyed.
We will continue to store the ladders of indoor storage customers for the summer and of course dinghy’s and motors for the winter. Everything else must be stored elsewhere or aboard your boat. Presently we do not have the capability to safely or securely store additional items.
We would like to have all items identified and or removed prior to August 23rd. At that time we will either sell or trash any unclaimed items. If you have items in the shop that you want to keep and cannot make it up prior to the 23rd let me know and we will make arrangements for temporary storage.
Reminder From the Park Service
The Park Service wants to remind all boaters that in order to protect fragile vegetation and sensitive resources… Fires are prohibited on all beaches on Raspberry Island and Stockton Island, beaches at Presque Isle Bay and Julian Bay and in beach locations within 150 feet of developed campsites where fire receptacles are provided.
Fenders at The Fuel Dock
At
your suggestion we have added 8 new 21” fenders at the fuel dock.
This will help provide a softer tie up for your fueling and pump outs.
